Speaking as a girl in very similar glasses, I say awww. And thank you. And wow, totally amazing illustrations! Are they all from the same book? What is it?
Vice magazine just recently released its 2008 Global Trend Report:
Is there still no respite from this shit? Vintage glasses have been completely played out. Subculture uniforms are the worst type of conformism -- it combines the bogus "these clothes are my identity" aspect of FASHION with all the unoriginality of following a dress-by-numbers scheme.
Buy some converse, get some skinny jeans and move to the back of the queue.
So what's the subtext of this post? That glasses also = brainy, therefore brainy girls are sexy? That glasses also = indie, therefore indie girls are sexy?
But really, that whole "men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses" is a bit old now isn't it? Glasses have been a sexy accessory for quite a while. The very fact that one can so easily wear contact lenses now means that girls who wear glasses must think the glasses add something to their appearance.
I wear steel framed specs 'cos I can see past them and they don't totally fill my peripheral vision. Mind you having had to suffer NHS spec-based bullying at school I couldn't go back...
Something special about females with spectacles. It might be Freudian because it rhymes with so much. To a cosmetic surgeon those specs all sit on a throbbing piece of gristle. I guess it's all in your perspective I suppose. Do you have any stories in your book about them?
this entry is some kind of a false binary; it's also the first lj-cut in click op history. i like that collage it reminds me of the back pages of the high school yearbooks where bunches of friends would chip in for an ad and make a corny photo collage of themselves!
Glasses are Ugly. Ugly is the new Black. History is Exploded.
Glad to see you're not nostalgically picking up the pieces but reassembling them as they float down, making them into vessels to hold tea ceremonies in order to discuss the re-in-formation of new tomorrows.
I wear mine to see, and I like them to still be in one piece after I drop them...have worn heavy strong old frames since I was about 12 and will continue to wear them through the times of popularity as well as the times of taboo. So to those that wear them without a prescription lens? Why bother, do you like the sun glare and sore nose bridge? To those that take the time to assume I am trying to be trendy or not trendy? Why bother, don't you find that your time would be better used keeping yourself "on the fridge"? I just wish Buddy Holly would have died long before he was popular as no matter what frames I am wearing, as long as I wear my much needed prescription glasses regardless of overall shape, people continue to call me by his name; THIS INCLUDES YOU NICK, ASSHOLE!!!! love, John / Fashion Flesh
The last girl, ok, *one* of the last girls I went out with wore glasses - I tend to date a lot of them now that I think of it...
We had the talk of, "when did you start wearing them"
I guess she ruined her vision, reading as a girl, late at night using the light from the hallway that somehow got into her room. She just strained so hard to read, when she wasn't allowed to have the light on that late.
I find girls with glasses beautiful. Most likely, the same reason I find women who don't wear an excessive amount of makeup beautiful as well - natural beauty.

Zoku just means the sequel. He's famous for the Yokai manga "Gegege no Kitaro".
