Rainbows, stripes, gold lamé, animal prints, nu-rave, new wave, thrift leotards stretched over generous curves, all-over face paint, mid-song costume changes, clouds, toilet seats, scrawled thunderbolt letters on arms and legs, yellow nail varnish, stagediving, drawn-on specs, Inca zig zags, black metal, lycra, sexxx appeal, death from above, shopping on the road...

Does anyone now doubt it? Luísa Hanaê Matsushita -- the carnal carnie and one-woman carnival float familiar to millions as Lovefoxxx -- is this decade's key dresser, standing to the wilder, hipper, wider, hippier side of the noughties as Björk Guðmundsdóttir did to the nineties. Quite frankly, nobody does it better because nobody else, this decade, has really been trying. Let it be entered in the annals of style in gold-ink roller biro -- this may not be what we looked like in 2008 (we didn't really dare!), but it's how we'll be remembered and revived.

brazil was the major place for japanese to travel overseas to live and work, (before WW2, that is)

When you say "japanese", I read "poor peasants from inaka or far off the mainland islands". I'm not undervaluing them but there's a cultural/power bias there. Back in the day Japan had these agreements with Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Dominican Republic where Japanese farmers set up colonies "in hope for a better future"(!?! How ironic doesn't that sound nowadays)

Anyway, coming back to topic, I'd be extremely surprised if our Lovefoxy could put together ONE phrase that made sense in Japanese. As I said, in her country everyone is only allowed to be "white". So, as the current situation is, I still don't see any problem with more truly multicultural countries like Britain, Australia, Canada, even France, America, Netherlands or Denmark. The problematic ones are places like Brazil or South Africa - and you don't even need (Islamic) terrorists there because the local criminal populace kills more people than terrorists ever will.

To finish off, the only connection between Brazil and Japan nowadays is football/soccer. A more educated minority in Japan is interested in Brazilian popular music from the 60s and 70s. That's all that is to it. Compare that to all the cultural exchange between Japan and North America, Europe and East Asia and Japanese people who do relevant work, study and migrate nowadays to these places.

Also, if you're up to a remarkable cultural experience, visit the Brazilian Embassy or the closest Consulate to you. When I went there, there was government official working at the office behind the counter wearing a muffin top and Bono sunglasses.
