The funny thing is, I really don't know how that pretty Japanese schoolgirl got there. As you can see from the RealPlayer window, what I ordered from the stacks was actually Rule Number 1 (http://www.ubu.com/sound/beckett/beckett01.ram), a Samuel Beckett text about death, absurdity and futility. The life force is not an acceptable substitute. I want to see the head librarian, please!

I actually got that same clip while trying to find previews of the Beckett on Film series online. at first I was shocked and appalled, but then I realized that, yes, I do actually prefer attractive naked females to the bleak and unforgiving absurdity of the abyss.

It's not sex (http://www.moblg.net/blogs/626/thumbs/moblog_5f877c3e33932.jpg), but it's in a library (http://www.moblg.net/view.php?id=11509).

They're nearing completion on a new, state-of-the-art behemoth library to replace the location pictured above. I'm hoping they'll be able to move the majority of their books out of the stacks and onto actual accessible shelves.

sex and libraries - two great tastes that go great together.

Sex in a library is probably my greatest fantasy, and yet it goes unfulfilled. The man I date who manages to act on my not-so-subtle hints will be the man I marry... or, at least, have sex with again.

Back to reading about the history of reading... Wolfgang Iser makes no mention of this...

Shhh...

Momus, please! I happen to be sitting in a college library right now, trying to avoid the sideways glances of people looking over at me and this screen. Suddenly I feel really, really dirty.

Still--sex in libraries has always been the hottest sex there can be. Certain floors underground at the Widener at Harvard... well, mum's the word, Momus.

But be assured that American librarians, at least, are always at the forefront of the battle for free and open access to the entire interweb. Having worked in several libraries myself, I can assure you that you have friends among the stacks.

I now have the weird impression that, while all my Friendster friends are fashion stylists, all my LJ friends are slightly perverted librarians. I wonder what this can mean (and what Heidegger would have said about it)?

Do I smell a new entry entitled, "Shklovsky and Friendster vs. Heidegger and LJ"?

I am not, to my knowledge, a librarian, (though that doesn't count out the possibility of me being one.) but as for slightly perverted, you hit the Elephant right in the Adams Apple with that one.

ack NOT WORKSAFE. Luckily I'm lounging in NYU's ITP building where someone is playing the new Beastie Boys album on turntables and the man behind me is browsing pictures of Japanese models online. but you still totally violated LJ etiquette!

i heard, in a recent faculty meeting, of a college student who had been written up for masturbating in the library. he got off (pardon inadvertent pun) because nothing in the "student code of conduct" specifically addressed such behavior.

hiya Momus! Got into your work two summers ago when I was stuck in Tokyo for awhile with not-enough-cash-to-get-home but just-enough-cash-to-fritter-away-on-CD's as constantly recommended by friendly Shibuya record shoppe clerks.

And were it up to me, library-porn would be as normal and socially-acceptable as bathhouses and vomitoriums have been since Roman times.
