I once ended up in Kera (http://www.indexcomm.co.jp/kera/).
I was on vacation in London and whilst trying to figure out where to go I was approached by an Asian woman with a camera. I was scared she'd ask me for directions as I had no clue where anything were, but instead she simply exclaimed "You look like a punkish girl! May I take picture?" To which I said yes. She took some pictures and walked away.
A couple of years later my friend ordered a bunch of random Kera magazines online and found my picture in there. o,o The woman who took my picture never told me she was from Kera, or that she was going to publish the picture(s) anywhere. I think I look horrible in the shot, but it's still fun to think that I've been a model of sorts. I'm sad that it says I'm from Sweden, though. I'm Norwegian (I can't remember telling the woman where I was from at all, though.. so I guess Sweden is close enough).
So.. don't give up dreaming about being in FRUiTS, it may happen! :P
i was in a the New York edition of a project similar to FRUiTS called 'Merry.' I think the premise was happy smiling girls from different cultures. Apparently my giant grin & quote about what makes me "merry" donned a tile on the floor or wall or ceiling of Tokyo gallery. ah, having just checked, i'm on the first page of the magazine edition (http://www.21merry.net/expomag/01/index.html) as well!
I saw the Merry London exhibition at Laforet Museum, but not the Merry New York one at Think Zone in Roppongi, which you were in. Can't recognize you in those pictures, that's not you in the pink wig, is it?
Once I was photographed twice the same day by Street magazine. They were roving the Lower East Side. I don't know if they knew I was the same person on Broadway they'd just snapped on Orchard Street! But alas they didn't use either photo.
Ha, that reminds me of the episode of Nathan Barley when he gets a mistaken haircut, a "Geek Pie", and only the Japanese see its originality. Reviled in London, he becomes a style leader in Tokyo.
Kinokuniya in Rockefeller Center sells Fruits, methinks. There's also a really great Japanese pastry shop right next to it. I seriously don't understand the reasoning behind the concentration of Japanese goods in Rockefeller Center, but I find it to be pretty great.
I should add that the appeal is mainly callipygian rather than bathycolpian. But then, as Marie Antoinette might have agreed, more than what might fill a champagne glass is too much. ;)
"The BBC website today tells us that creative people are luckier in love. "If you are hoping to improve your love life, it may be wise to develop artistic traits, researchers suggest. The more creative a person is, the more sexual partners they are likely to have."
That's so true - it also translates into every other sphere of human existence.
And on the converse side of things...
The pursuit of consumption as the sole point of existence destroys the possibility of creativity, instead creating 'droughts', 'deserts' and 'black-holes'.
This is the first time I post a comment here, even though I'm a regular reader of Click Opera, I just love your blog almost the same as your music. I found about you through my ex- he is a big fan of your music too, we bought your DVD at Crocodisc when we went to Paris, it was great to see your first things. Well, I post now because I am all excited that you are in the same continent that I am, so I'm really looking forward to go to your show on May. I wanted to see you at the Whitney, but right now I am finishing my thesis, besides I want to see you perform and play.
Trying not being impertinent: I think you don't need to dream about becoming a FRUiT.
We can only hope the Arctic Circle dandies will one day outnumber the fifties doo-wop guys, japanobees and Hanoi Rocks clowns.
It would appear that you (http://brightshiny.thejetsetjunta.se/?p=30) and I (http://brightshiny.thejetsetjunta.se/?p=27) are both featured a Scandinavian blog. I've always wanted my name up in northern lights. ;)
i surrender. i simply must acquire your digital friendship! and perhaps book recommendations! badminton--a noble sport...perhaps even beyond the semantic realm of 'sport'! Somd friends from high school made a song and video on the topic... "When I say 'bad', you say 'minton'. Bad! Minton! Bad! Minton!"
I was mesmerized by the Olympic badminton finals a year or so ago: The elaborate choreography in conjunction with the barely visible shuttlecock, nets, and racquets resulted in an absurd ballet. It felt more like an formal yet improvised performance dependent on props rather than a sport. Curling captured my interest during the last Winter Olympics for similar reasons.
My first recommendation for spring reading: Italo Calvino's The Baron in the Trees
mmm thank you, though i have tofollow the road out of Invisible Cities first. are you an Oe fan? I just picked up The Silent Cry after falling in heart-wrenching love with and having my pleasant view of humanity splintered by A Personal Matter.
re: the handfull of Japanese shops in Rockefeller Center - I don't know if it's still the case but over a decade ago (though not as long as Kinokuniya has been there) it was often quoted "and the Japanese now own Columbia Pictures and Rockefeller Center". Anyway the Japanese National Tourist Bureau is in the same building too. Lots of interesting English language brochures from less internationally travelled to prefectures. -ndk

It's just that when I think FRUiTS, I think of bright happy colors lol.
