Not so much a video postcard from Japan as a video postage stamp. A postage stamp that moves. And that attempts to convey the atmosphere of my last couple of months in Hakodate and Tokyo.

A glance at the Darla sales ranking (http://www.darla.com), by the way, shows Otto Spooky in fourth place behind... three records by The Field Mice!

Heh heh! Well, I wouldn't want to prolong the suspense too long. The album is now playing for the second time, and it has that 'growing on me' feeling at present. Tracks that stand out for me so far are:

Corkscrew King
Klaxon
Your Fat Friend
Water Song
Bantam Boys
and Cockle Pickers.

Of course, that's liable to change, if my past experience with Momus albums is anything to go by. My overall impression is of even greater eclecticism than usual and of a kind of gentle feeling to the melodies and production. The songs don't seem to be about the 'punch' of physical impact so much as the spread of texture.
