3 Berlin Interiors

Top: The Asiatisches Handlung at 9 Meeraner Strasse, out in the plattenbauten wilderness of Marzahn, is a big Vietnamese wholesale village spread across several warehouses. Here you can buy plastic flowers, a bun soup, electronic junk, cheap woollens, a catering-sized rice cooker. Bail out of the tram at the Allee der Kosmonauten (don't forget your Soviet-made zero gravity suit).

Middle: The Flick Collection at the Hamburger Bahnhof. Should be called The Fuck Collection; it's all Paul McCarthy-style doggy position saloon bar bump-n-grind and flickering fellatio neons. I spent almost an hour with an interesting Dan Graham film called 'Rock My Religion'. The general licentiousness was salutary and invigorating, but I couldn't help musing that if I incorporated any of this dionysian energy into my songs I'd get these sorts of comments all over again... at least from the British.

Bottom: At Kaori and Mika's place in Friedrichshain. We'd just bought the bike for 25 euros from the hippies in the absinthe store that shows 1920s erotica in the back room. The perves told us our 50 euro note was forged, but Mika suspects they switched it behind the counter with one of theirs. They gave us cookies, but I refused to eat mine in case it was laced.

Your posts are making me want to move to Berlin. But does Berlin have a burning need for a dude who draws stuff in his sketchbook...? Hmmmmm.

Oh, come on. Cookies can't be less innocuous than hippie-sold absinthe.

Also, second picture looks like cathedral.

It used to be a railway staion, Quimby (I like saying that name), and now it's a cathedral to art.

Do you know the real reason we're all here? That whole apartment is 350 euros a month, or 240 British pounds. In London that wouldn't get you a single room. Berlin is a place where you can afford to live without really working. So everyone here 'sketches' or does something more interesting than 'work'.

Comparing things to London is hardly fair. It's crazy there.

The original poster is right, though, I feel a lot more enticed to visit Berlin now that I'm reading your journal. I should learn German and put it on my list after I'm done with Tokyo and perhaps-Beijing-or-Shanghai-or-someplace.

Berlin sounds like an absolutely wonderful place to live, especially price-wise.

Lusts of a moron

(Anonymous) 2004-12-03 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Nick, is that an ironic title or did someone write it without your permission?

I'd just read G. Infante Cabrera's 'Infante's Inferno', a sexual autobiography. He mentions in passing a shameful Cuban work called 'Lusts of a Moron' which he'd often furtively consulted in early adolescence. I thought it was a funny title. I think it was also intended to counter the usual British accusations that I was 'over-educated'. It worked: after that people told me I was 'over-sexed'.

the girl on the bicycle is terribly adorable!

You mean you adore her in a terrible way? I worry about all the asian girls in Mo's pictures. Like seeing mice playing near a car which has one eye closed.

Kaori is indeed terribly adorable (http://www.monminouweb.com/onedj.html). So's her boyfriend Mika.

I think you mean cat, don't you? Specifically, this cat:

Mmm. I was thinking more of a *peeping" sort of cat (not car, you are quite right). I did a search for "peeping" on Google and just look who appeared on the first page:

I did a Google search today on 'baggy ass hipster' (trying to find if those baggy-bum skater jeans have a name) and I was the number two on the results list! I truly am winning at Google if I come up on a search for 'peeping' and 'baggy ass hipster'! All roads lead to Click Opera!

"baggy ass hipster"? Did you really? It doesn't appear to be there now. Maybe you'll have to mention it in your next posting.

Ah, "baggy ass jeans"!

That's interesting, you mean you're running a Google search on 'baggy ass hipster' and not getting a Click Opera hit at number 2? I just tried again and did. I wonder if Google has some algorhythm that makes often-visited sites -- or one's own site -- appear high up on one's hit list?

Ah, I know what the problem is. You searched for <>; I searched for <<"baggy ass hipster">>, i.e., in-quotes search for exact phrase. Dropping the quotes does indeed bring you in at number 2:

Sorry, LJ mangled my post - doesn't seem to like angle brackets. Basically what happened is that I put the words in quotes and you apparently didn't.

How do you set up your LJ site so that a Google Search for "Click Opera" pulls up your site? I am guessing this has something to do with the S1 customizations. Thanks, Ron

Mo, that's the girl's mum or granny chasing you out of the house with a hoover! Rumbled at last, you old Humbert!
