It's the last day, alas, of this Japan trip. Tomorrow I fly back to Berlin, and today I'm heading up to Kyoto to see Doddodo in concert. It's been a gorgeous six weeks, in which I've seen amazing sights and also tried to provide an amusing visual spectacle to my hosts, the people of the enchanted archipelago. Today, in retrospect and celebration, I'm offering a selection of the ludicrous outfits I've been wearing.

Thank you, Japan! For the clothes, the experiences, the inspiration! See you soon!

The level of pent-up envy and aggression in this comment is exceptional, even given the general madness level of anonymous posting here. Does momus owe you money? Did he run away with your bride at the alter? Has he slighted you in love? If not, then I fear for your mental health, because if this is painfully middle-class in your world then I wonder what planet you're living on.

Isn't one of the basic rules of trolling that one's barbs should bear at least some relevance to the target of your loathing? Though "aggressive" is wrong, it is at least plausible, but "angsty" is a word you really need to look up in the dictionary.

And unless you are saying that the middle classes have started buying their clothing in Japanese thrift stores and utility supply shops - no, didn't think so - then your comment to momus had no relevance either.

Funny thing is, if upsetting people is your aim, and I assume it is, the phrase "comfortably middle class" would probably - rightly - have offended our host more.

Amusing to see this Anon attempting to be as ad hom with fellow Anons as s/he was with me via the "you sound + exaggeration of some trait" formula.

There might be an argument to make for the idea that a certain kind of middle class security underpins my dandyism, but if there is, this Anon isn't making even the most tentative stab in its direction. Why bother, when you can just jab out with flabby, impressionistic ad homs? After all, actually articulating a cogent argument is... painfully middle-class.

how much further do they need to go? you've just confirmed yourself that there's a middle class underpinning (self-consciousness?) there somewhere. proving they were spot on...
