Me on TV?

After a spate of abstruse and intelligent journal entries about pond life and suchlike, I thought I'd make a rather stupid and jubilant one just showing me, yesterday, chuffed to the proverbials because a producer from my favourite British TV programme -- in fact the only British terrestrial TV programme I watch regularly -- contacted me quite out of the blue to say he was thinking of trying me out for the show. I can't tell you which show it is until something comes of this -- and probably nothing will. But after years in what feels like a wilderness, at least as far as my relationship with the UK is concerned, to appear on British TV, and on my favourite show, would feel like some kind of triumphant return to the bosom of the motherland.

I'm sorry, but the chances of you appearing on Match of the Day would seem to be pretty slim!

Let me guess...

Yes. You know when you go to the video rental store and the film you want is only on VHS because only three people in the entire world would buy it on DVD?

This is rather tangential but your comment reminded me of this excellent article from wired.

Maybe I should get Alastair Campbell on my case, confirm/denying official/unofficial leaks. Anyway, I'm absolutely not going to say anything more, because I got one of those e mails with a stern legal confidentiality notice at the end. I can't even say what network it is.

"Hello again, Doctor."
"Brigadier! Well, this is old home week, isn't it?"
"I wish it could be under better circumstances, Doctor. He's back."
"Who's back?"
"Momus."
"Ah. Well, it's been delightful chatting with you, Brigadier. (Zoe, get back in the Tardis.) Must be going! You know how it is..."
"Doctor..."
::sigh:: "He's released another album then, has he?"
"No. Not yet."
"Then there might still be time. Zoe, under the Tardis console you'll find an old milk crate of albums. Bring me the one titled Timelord... and be very careful. It's dangerous."

That's a brilliant initiative on the part of The Guardian. I've long thought that 'no taxation without representation' should be extended to 'no invasion without representation'. And, as the Guardian points out, the US president has almost as much influence on British politics these days as on Iraqi politics. British troops were committed to war by an American president we didn't get to vote for. We absolutely deserve the right to influence the choice of his successor.

You know, other than the news, there isn't a single TV prog which I tune in to watch on mainstream channels. Freeview offers a good history channel....

Anyway, good luck with your career, (from a wanna-be novelist still very much in the wilderness!!!)

The first time I saw you on TV was around '93(?) doing "Sampler San" talking about samplers in Japanese in the Japenese Kid's TV Show "Ugo Ugo Lhuga's, but this was before I discovered you. Then I remember being excited seeing you again on a short TechTV feature during the west coast part of your American tour. My third time was actually on a dream. You were doing a guest appearance at "Adult Swim"'s Space Ghost (LOL.)
Now, you've got me all impatient about your prospective TV appearance. Hopefully it happens. We need to see more of the likes you in the media, here and abroad.

Momus was on Space Ghost? I'l have to check out the episode when I'm home from Japan.

Did they make a big fool out of him like they seem to with everyone else?

In fact ...they didn't. I guess that not even space ghost can make a fool out of the 'god of mockery.' Unfortunately, it was just me, dreaming:

But, it would be fun, wouldn't it?

British television in America = The misadventures of senior citizens in the neighborhood, the dour boss and his sassy retail employees, a cooking show, followed by an episode of Monty Python. I have no idea which one you would be on.
From: [identity profile] imomus.livejournal.com
Ha ha ha, you are awful... but I like you!

Actually, I wish it was a sitcom, I'd love to write one. Or something like Vic Reeves, Peter Cook or Chris Morris' shows. I was reading a book about British TV comedy from 1960-1980 on the plane back from Japan, and it really was a very creative period for writing. Some of the sketches were priceless, I was giggling for hours on the plane at the early Peter Cook sketches especially.
