There's a big Momus feature today in The Guardian Review. It's written by Brian Dillon, and, with impeccably lucid style and all the right references, covers my entire career, from Edinburgh 1980 to Berlin 2010. The records and books are reviewed as if they're all essentially part of the same enterprise, which I think they are, and Dillon sees me becoming a sort of Ivor Cutler figure in later life, a fate I'd be happy to embrace (Cutler is a hero of mine; perhaps when I met him at the Photographers Gallery cafe ten years ago I was meeting my future).

I'm in Madrid for the next four days. There's a lot happening in the Spanish capital this weekend, with a big council-sponsored festival called La Noche En Blanco, White Night. That's being countered by an alternative protest event called 364 Noches Sin Blanca, 364 Nights Without White, in which independent artists complain about Madrid's cultural scene the rest of the year round. Somewhere amidst all that, I play a Momus show at La Pequeña Bety, Calle Reina 4, Madrid.

fyi -- Ever since I upgraded to Safari 4 two days ago, the background on Click Opera has disappeared and turned to white. Very annoying. I checked it on another earlier version of safari and it looked fine.

Weird, I'm looking at this on Safari 4 now (in a FNAC store in Madrid!) and the background works fine!

the same thing happens with me on Safari 4, usually towards the end of the day. when I check Click Opera in the morning it's fine, but when i return later there's a white background with Safari's default Time New Roman font.

haven’t you get the memo? comic sans is already passé and borderline ironically-desirable. type jokes now must be about papyrus.

Really heartening to see some serious recognition!

Interesting to hear about La Noche En Blanco and its shadow event. We have an equivalent event here in Toronto (Nuit Blanche) and I don't much like the idea of having one night set aside for art, exploration and playfulness -- which of course implies a separation those things from life's every day business for the rest of the year. I'm not too concerned, though - I do see enough evidence from the youngsters here to convince me that the other 364 days aren't going completely to waste.

Well, I'm impressed by the remarkably un-Momus-like restraint you show in announcing to the world that you're the subject of a feature in the Guardian Review! I mean, this is the moment you've been waiting for your entire career, isn't it? Made it, Ma, top of the world! Recognition from the very heart of the British liberal establishment. At least you won't be able to whine on about how you're ignored on the other side of the channel any more. Interesting, though, that it took your writing a book to garner that kind of recognition. Your past few records have been utterly ignored by the mainstream press of all countries, and yet your book earns you reviews in the Village Voice, Guardian, and no doubt more to come.

That Seminary Cooperative review was absolutely dreadful. Felt like it was written by someone hopelessly undereducated and out of touch.
Los Angeles Times wasn't bad, definitely better written than what I've come to expect from them.

364 Noches Sin Blanca, (364 Nights Without White) means «364 nights with no money», an ironic comment to the cultural politics of madrid counciil

I cant really say I see the "anti-morissey" part. I understand where he was trying to go with it... but... not exactly fitting.... imho
