Came out rather well, I think. You should be pleased.

A minor point: some of us have been profoundly shaped by N. America, and have rather deep cultural roots here (13,000 yrs), but of course that's more the exception than the rule. And most of us are in fact beavers.

wonderful stuff. free of the usual music business trivialities, this was a 'proper' down to earth exchange. it's almost quaintly anachronistic, in this world of Pop idols and insipid 'stars'.

Cherry Red 's set needs some work. To many bright walls.
It would be nice if the cushy seating were surrounded by nothing but
blackened space surrounded by a sea of cherry red logos repeated on the floor and curtains.

On the other hand, it might look a little to POP!
Though with just curtains it would make it less expensive and suit everyone alike!

hmm i wish this had more about the influences and themes of each album rather than a timeline of label-jumping and the social aspects of recording an album.

Really enjoyable to watch/listen. Though might work better in written/printed format with footnotes to mention names, like in the interviews book Mike Kelley did, as not all the names are going to instantly ring bells. This anon has only known you via blog and website sporadically over the last couple of years, still doesn't really know your music so this was great to watch and will start at ubu and proceed from there. Somehow missed it (even though I knew and liked Cornelius, Stereo Total, Scratch Pet Land etc from late 90s on). I'm sure I'll be damned as a 'newb' for admitting that by some Currie'r than thou poster or other, but I've never seen anything wrong with the odd wet ear or green horn.

Momus, what would you consider your lowest point, in terms of your recording career?

Having to sing about 40 people on the Indiepop List for $25 bucks a name? I mean, at that point you might consider becoming a busker or a performing seal.

Ian McNay seems such a pleasant and unassuming fellow. So very anti-record industry.

On the possibility of a Summerisle 2: I would not like to see that happen because of the fact that I really like Summerisle. A sequel does not seem very Momus-like. (But the things I heard from Anne Laplantine after Summerisle have been fantastic)

i thought the idea of writing mixing and finishing a song to order in a few hours was brilliant.very Warhol .incidentally stars forever contains some of your best melodies(.although one sounds very much like" the age of information"was this intentional or a subconscious self rip off.)anyway to get a bit anorak what was your studio set up also did you master it and produce it yourself? thats all really ..

I remember discovering 'el, in the 90's and falling in love. Bought every record and CD Alway had/has released. Then on to Richmond, Bungalow, and Siesta picking up the whole catalogs.

This obsession was quite surprising to my friends who would receive cassette/cd compilations I felt compelled to make. Summer Holiday 1999 -Fab Gear, Oh Constance -Marden Hill, You Mary You -Louis Philippe, Maria Celeste -Anthony Adverse, Jackie Onassis -Milky and on and on and on...

You did a great job explaining the thread and even though you can frustrate the hell out of me at times, I have a fondness for every piece of music and essay you have released. You and Mike Alway, have always made music and life's observations greatly rewarding. Thanks Nick!

What a great story, with few details left out, it seems. I was surprised to learn how deeply rooted you were in the music industry and how you reinvented yourself independently. Are you, upon with embarking a new path in writing, going to leave music on a second place? Oh, and are you thinking of an autobiography? I hope that will come later as to cover the new emerging momus facets.
