Attempts on her life
"Fuck college,' someone commented here yesterday, 'this journal does the job'.
I'm aware that this is turning into Postmodernism 101, so I thought I'd make a casual entry today talking about more human and down-to-earth things. ('But aren't you just trying to claim some kind of moronic authenticity with this stance, Nick?' Shut up!)

The play I'm doing has been hard work, with rehearsals daily. Then again, on a grey, cold and rainy autumn day, there's really nothing nicer than being in a darkened space with actors and lights. The first performance of 'Angriffe Auf Anne' by Martin Crimp -- with music by me and Kaori Mitsushima -- in front of an audience is at 8pm on November 16th, at the Hochschule Ernst-Busch here in Berlin. If you're in town, come along!
Ist Anne Terroristin?
Ist Anne Künstlerin?
Ist Anne Nichtraucherin?
Ist Anne ein Auto?
Ist Anne?

It's Turner Prize season again. Check out the contenders on Tate Britain's site.
The Private World of Kenneth Williams is a BBC Radio 4 programme in which David Benson reads excerpts from the stately homo's diaries in a tremendously good impersonation. Things get fairly nightmarish towards the end, as Williams' loneliness and sexual repression mount.

If I find out that this comment isn't true, I'll come back and immediately correct it...but I've read journal entries from people who say she's fine. Apparently she threw even her friends for a loop.
But still...czech out the music and films at kojapan.com and music at kojpan.com/planet.html. It's all awesome stuff. I did the music for the film Signals in my dorm room last semester...obviously without the help of a metronome. That film was a good collaboration for she and I, though.
Again, I haven't talked to her myself...so I haven't really accepted anything fully at this point. But listed above is what I've seen or heard from other people...and I hope for all the world that she is fine.

I saw one of Sybil's IM names log onto Instant Messenger last night...so unless it was someone else (which it may have been)...Sybil is fine.

I'll keep you posted with anything I hear...but I get the feeling no one is going to tell me anything directly for a while.
So...I'm still braced for the worst and hoping for the best...until I see her or hear from her myself.
But I do encourage everyone to continue czeching out her sites. But you might not have to think about what she could have done...just kick back and watch the things that she actually does.

I don't think I could handle it if it wasn't a hoax--so I'm clinging to that. I'm really hoping that I run into her on campus at some point (it's a small school...if she's here I'll see her eventually).
Again--if I hear differently I'll post as soon as I can.

momus mentioned on metafilter...
(Anonymous) 2004-11-10 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)And here's something about the architectural spaces of Japanese homes & baths: http://dhnotebook.asumendi.com/forums/topic_view/29 (http://dhnotebook.asumendi.com/forums/topic_view/29).
I'm hoping we'll get some more cultural observances, maybe even an Momus Radio Berlin MP3 one of these days. I miss them. Maybe when the play's over.
Also: the graphics on the Live Journal are excellent these days, even if the pomo philosophizing is a bit bewildering.

I've never hated anyone in my life. I just can't go on promoting her work or saying nice things about her and her accomplishments anymore. I just can't do it. It's personal between she and I. It shouldn't affect anyone else's view of anything.
this should take your mind off it for a bit

Nice to know that at least one story has a happy ending in these dark days.

But where's my happy ending?
[Oh...and I read your journal everyday...I'm a big fan, but I never comment because you guys talk about stuff that is over my head].
This is Sybil
(Anonymous) 2004-11-11 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)I never knew anyone thought my work was good or even cared enough to be upset about my "death" so all this comes as a shock to me.
Of course I will be living up to all the hype.
This is Sybil (again)
(Anonymous) 2004-11-11 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)Re: This is Sybil (again)
For some reason the whole thing did upset me terribly. Perhaps it's because I'm working at the moment on this Martin Crimp play which is about a girl who may (we're never quite told) have committed suicide as a work of performance art. But I think I may have known on a subconscious level that you weren't supposed to be dead. Thank heaven you're not. And yes, now go and make the films that that tree out on the North 79 so selfishly seemed to have deprived us of!

How can someone you've never met, or only once met, be a friend? Or someone to care about the same way you'd care for a local friend or someone you went to school with ...
But they are -- it is just a meeting of minds... which eventually is all that matters.
There is always a sadness in it when someone who puts their thoughts and creations out for the world to see and hear all of a sudden is no more ...
In some ways the net makes everything and everyone immortal.
Why can someone woth an extensive website full of creations disappear?
How can anyone leaving themselves anywhere all of a sudden not be able to do it anymore?
