Me: It's good, I like the colours! And I always like that combination of folksy and tech styles. Like when Bless did their N°26 Cable Jewellery thing, "to transform undesired appendixes into desirable objects". And does it stop the rabbit biting your power cable?

Hisae: Yes, it does.

Me: We need a lot more of those! For the rabbit's sake and ours. Hey, you should sell them online! Why not?



Hisae: Yes, I was thinking of doing that. I spoke to Naoko and she said I should charge €90 for each one.

Me: Wow, €90!

Hisae: It sounds a lot, I know, but each one takes a week for me to knit.



Me: I think €50 sounds reasonable. The euro's pretty strong just now. That's about $75, you know. How about €50 including postage? I could announce it on Click Opera and people could pay via my Paypal account! Do you want to try?

Hisae: Okay!



Me: Okay, I'll do it tomorrow. People can order them by sending me a mail and telling me how long the cable to be covered is. Let's shoot some pictures!

Hisae: I already shot some, I'll mail them to you. What shall we call the operation? I want a good name.

Me: Hmm... Psychedelic Python? Rainbow Power? Mizutani Cable Knit Corporation?

As a government health and safety advisor i'm afraid i am going to have to stop this Mizutani Cable Knit Corporation before it even gets off the ground. A little bit of me wants it to work, however the fire hazard is there for us all to see. The only other solution i can think of would be to cover the cable in that stuff young girls put on their nails to stop them biting them. That would surely stop the rabbit from nibbling.

Provided the cables are in good condition (i.e. no nicks or damage to the rubber insulation, which is dangerous to begin with anyway) there should be no great fire risk with this cover, especially since I presume it will mostly be covering low voltage, low current DC cables like the one connecting the laptop to the transformer, or signal cables (like modem leads or whatever).

The only *possible* risk I can see for those with animals is that, were the animal to nibble at the whole kaboodle, the extent of the damage to the actual cable might not be appreciable till it is too late. But that would only really be a fire risk if the mains part were chewed.

However, anything like a 'laptop tea cosy' which someone else on here mentioned in passing, is asking for trouble, given the heat those things chuck out and the need for ventilation. Amen. ;-)

Talking about pricing and patterns as digital data, I think we touch interesting issues here:
although I am/"feel" too poor to pay 50 euros for this, I think the initial 90 euros or even more would be appropriate (hisae worked a week, or at least some days on it right?)
Thinking of the object in terms of an art piece and not as a commercial product with practical functionality (frightening off rabbits, flammable) it seems somehow unpayable to me, whereas the knitting pattern - as a technique - then in turn could also be free...

Anyone worried about fire can use it as a necklace, or just don't leave the house with it plugged in (you have been warned). The idea of a making the instructions for sale is excellent for impoverished click opera readers. If she knits it in the opposite direction, vertical rather than horizontal, it may be faster for her to make.

I was just wondering if Hisae used the magic loop method to knit her cable covers? If it could be made small enough, it would cut the knitting time in half. Great apologies if I'm teaching her to suck eggs.

I have to remake some things in crochet.. but crochet and knit are different.
I think 50€ is a good price, maybe +10-15€ is better for the rentability and the work (i know it, a bit). I know people who sell some very cute scarves for more of 100-200€

About the crocheted coral reef, i seen a same decoration in my school with the topic of Forest with dark green, brown, etc. It was very... beautiful.. i never seen any other thing like it who was as better as it. Soon, i have a formation for making it!
