Ulysses

I voted for Mr. Ulysses becuase I think it is the most solid of the names. Momus in Furs strikes me as too silly and though I like some of the others, none catches my attention like Mr. Ulysses. Plus, I think that and Life of the Fields are the two strongest songs among those you've let us sneak a peek at. Accusations of pretensions don't particularly interest me and I think that Ulysses is larger than any single reference.

Belvedere would be a fine title as wel, I'd say.

I've got to say, I've been listening to the album (so far) over and over at work, which has been nice becuase headphone listening has greatly enhanced my taste for the subtlety of a lot of the songs (as well as my ability to parse some of the more abstracted lyrics in Sempreverde and elsewhere). Anyway, my point is that it is shaping up to be my favorite Momus album. A great blend of the traditional forms with what seems the product of recent sonic adventures off the beaten path. Texturally Life of the Fields and Semperverde strike me as two of your most sophisticated compositions and I can't wait to listen to the final product. What is interesting is how well it all flows together despite the sometimes radical differences between songs. I've been listening to it in alphabetical order (thanks to iTunes making such determinations for me) and it has a nice flow that way. Perhaps this sounds fanboy, but that is not my intention. I just think its great.

My current running order is:

Sempreverde
Life of the Fields
Corkscrew King
Klaxon
Robin Hood
Lady Fancy Knickers
Lute Score
Belvedere
Your Fat Friend
Mr Ulysses
Water Song
Jesus in Furs
Bantam Boys
Cockle Pickers
The Artist Overwhelmed
I Refuse to Die

I think that's probably the final order.

I do love Sempreverde.
It sounds so peaceful and natural.
Like sitting in the middle of the woods with your furs on.
