Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

(The sleeve looks great, James!)

This is the digipak, the Analog Baroque Cherry Red version, and it's officially released on September 25th.

Meanwhile, Cherry Red would like me to tell you that other Momus albums can now be purchased as digital downloads. Actually, now I look at that page, it would appear that you can listen to clips of all the tracks and buy Ocky Milk as a digital download right this minute. Blimey!

Dear M.,

I think Cherry Red's online ordering system might need some fixing. I just tried to buy the CD and was magically whisked through the credit card stage to the download page. But I've never ordered anything from Cherry Red before. Somehow it seems to be errantly binding to someone's IP or another. Not mine!

So, dear Mr N. Venturas of delightful Corfu, it would appear you've been on a bit of a Momus buying spree! A legal copy of Ocky Milk for everyone in the family and me too. Many thanks! He's bought another in the time it's taken me to post this!

Apologies to anyone who has been exploiting this loophole. Well, actually no apologies, the man has to make a living somehow or another. (I've written as much to Cherry Red.)

Sounds wonderful and deliciously free so far. I promise to pay in due course...

Yup, one of thems me i'm afraid. I haven't downloaded the tracks and don't intend to (I can't anyway, the firewall at work will say no.) If it had prompted for card details I would've put them in...boo to the internet.

We'll, I'm that mister N. Venturas and just bought Ocky Milk, Ultraconformist and Togg as digital downloads less than an hour ago.

Then I saw that I was billed for Otto Spooky and 3 additional copies of Ocky Milk too, which I DID NOT BOUGHT. 30 more quid over my 27 original order! WTF?

I was getting ready to contact Cherry Red on the matter. Now, you say this ended up in your account? And my address and other details are visible to you too? What about my credit card number? I'm furious with Cherry Red about this!

I could see your address and email, but the credit card number was masked. Since I have downloaded Momus online before (but not direct from Cherry Red), I at first thought that maybe the two services were somehow interconnected, but I thought it odd that I hadn't been prompted for any details, so I thought i'd better check...

I emailed Cherry Red via the online contact box with the content of my message above. If you need to contact me over sorting this mess out, you can do so at sarmoung via gmail.

I'm very much enjoying the album. That enjoyment is somewhat spoiled by your credit card currently being taken to the cleaners. I do hope it gets sorted soon.

I'm at Ex-Erotomane now. Yoku dekimashita!

Wow, that is quite lacking in online-shopping security standards.

Otherwise, Momus, can't wait to hear the record! It looks very neat.

I'm really sorry. I didn't realise the session was logged in as someone else when I clicked check out. Cherry Red have since blocked the download link (not that it matters now) and I didn't see you credit card number. I can't comment on this for the person above.
I don't blame you for being furious - I would be too. I really hope they can cancel the transactions and you can get your money back

Okay, Cherry Red have now taken action. Matt writes:

Hi Nick,

I think we have a solution to this now, I will try to explain in an easy to understand way (as much as I do myself where technology is concerned).

Was the person who posted the links for you also the person that was being incorrectly charged for other people downloading via his card?

MPP (the technology company who run our site for us) have come back to me and said that this must be the case.

Basically - the URL that is created by those two links posted on your blog has some information at the end of the address that relates to an individual's personal account in our download shop (you have to create an account in order to buy something). If the link had not contained this info the problem would not have arisen.

It seems that as a result, other people were able to click on the link and then be taken straight into that person's account and therefore bypass the payment part of the transaction.

The link has now been closed off and MPP have assured me that this cannot be repeated. They will also offer a complete refund to the person involved (and I will suggest some free downloads as well).

Our sincere apologies for this - I will reply personally to the person involved.

Regards,

Matt.

[I replied telling Matt that the person posting the links was me, not the person being charged for the extra sales.]

Hmm...I can see what happened. The "Guid=blahblahblah" part of the url is a session identifier. When sarmoung clicked the link he took over your session, as did anyone else who clicked the link. In CherryRed's eyes, we're all *you*!

Using part of the url for session identification is a really bad idea for this exact reason - by simply posting a link with session information, everything gets fucked up.

You should probably remove the "Guid=blah" part from the link in your post. The link will still work.

Oh, and I highly doubt the problem's been fixed. I just clicked the link in your blog a minute ago and found 3 albums (2 copies of Ocky Milk and an Otto Spooky) in the shopping cart......

Shit! I've mailed CR again, and changed the URL as you suggested. What a palaver!

In the future, everyone will be Momus for fifteen minutes.

I'm the guy being charged for the extra sales.

I was contacted by Cherry Red and they are looking into the matter, along with the makers of their download site. Hopefully, all will go well.

As another comment explains, the problem probably lies in session data passed along with the links in the post, so whoever uses those risks having the same thing happen to him (until the problem is fixed).

Here's hopping the guys hosting the commerce site will get their act together. Until then, if you want to order the CDs or get the tracks, DON"T use the links in the post to visit their site (else you risk the same thing that happened to me). INSTEAD start from a clean URL such as:

http://secure1.mppglobal.com/ishop/?affiliateid=202

(this is the bare bones link to the cherry red download site, as provided from http://www.cherryred.co.uk/ ).

Thanks for helping me out Momus, sarmoung and everybody else.

On to listen to the tracks now! Finally.
