This is Example A of why I should check LJ on a Saturday - so I won't miss your few and far between performances. Hopefully you'll be at the Whitney today.

We all had a wonderful night last night....
Ana, Virgil, Mischa and I, (Brian Szente) have
been discussing the future and plot of
"Stained Glass Werewolves" The new movie
featuring Momus, due sometime early next year...
and we are all excited... and we loved the show last night,
I can't wait to hear Ocky Milk, the previews were amazing
and an album of Japanese Torch songs is exactly what
New york needs right now. It's also funny that Ping Pong,
well my second Momus record and Mischa's first... was
well represented by a little Biz Markie-ish "Born to be adored by women"... with Fashion Flesh seemingly doing the Ugghhh in the track. And we all hope to meet up again and listen to a little Montague terrace in Blue.

the ghost in the byzantie cracks,
Brian

Those Alesis Microns (Mr. Gilles is playing one in the picture) are quite nice. A friend of mine just picked one up and we've used it in some fashion in every project we've done since. They feel good to the touch, sound good, and travel well. I should become an Alesis sales rep...then I might actually be able to afford one of my own.

I wish I could have been at the recital...it looks like a good time was had by all.

I completely disagree. The single-knob editing system brings about more frustration than creativity. I, too, fell in love with the appearance when it came out, but I ended up selling it soon afterwards.

The editing on the Microkorg is also somewhat of a pain, but less so. Of course, sliders are the most desirable thing to have. The Juno-6, 60, etc. are in this price range and are far more fun to use (though slightly more limited in function). Ultimately, analog and virtual analog synths have a pretty limited vocabulary and I ended up selling them all.

Ah, I could see the knob being a problem, but right now a new toy is a new toy.

At the moment we do largely studio stuff, so we don't need a lot of patch changes quickly...just roll through and see what sounds cool, etc.

Do you have any advice for a synth with a good natural piano sound?

I don't know any specific models. I would just go down to Guitar Center and try things out. I try to avoid keyboards with piano samples for rock music, but in the past I have used the software Edirol Orchestra for modern R&B.

I live in Berlin most of the time, with annual trips to Japan.

I'll be back in New York next time I get an invitation to do something interesting here.

I enjoyed greatly the whole evening. Glad I dragged my lazy butt out into the world. Thanks for helping me make new memories. The "We came all the way from Mexico for this!" ladies noisily chattered in appreciation for much of your performance. Added to the multidimensionality of the evening.

I've been reading your lj for a couple of months. I'm jealous at how slim and trim you've kept. I also enjoy your writing and music.

Fantastic show. I appreciated the extra energy too. You seem to have found a way to cheat aging. I love the connection between you and your friends. It's so strong is almost tangible. It's great finally meeting Toog and Florence ... and her beautiful robe too! I totally dig her designs btw. I'm very excited about the new songs. I even liked the departure of Frilly Military from the Kahimi Karie version, although not more. Despite the fact I was desiccatedly exhausted I had a marvelous time, as usual.
Bon voyage back to Berlin!
