The story so far: Lord Balloono de Lagoono has been flown to Venice at great expense by the local council and university, Aprilia Scooters, and Fabrica Communication Research Centre. He is repaying his generous hosts by mumbling into a digital camera about cholera and canals, avian bird flu and sinister dwarves in red hooded raincoats. He spends the morning pontificating through a microphone to a classroom of captive students, and the afternoon leading them round the labyrinth of Venice, recording students shouting "Doctor, doctor of the asshole!" Which is pretty incredible, because he was just mumbling stuff about the Commedia del' Arte Dottore character, completely unaware he'd be hearing Venetian students hailing the long-nosed quack at the top of their lungs all day...

Well, the students from the University of Venice (not the ones attending this Teach Me festival) have just graduated, becoming doctors of letters, philosophy, etc. And the custom here in Italy is to deflate the natural pomposity that this might bring by going round the streets shouting at the top of your lungs (to the tune of an oom-pah-pah band) "Dottore, dottore, dottore del buco del culo."

Well the complete line goes 'Dottore, dottore, dottore del buco del cul, vaffancul, vaffancul" (it simply adds a double 'fuck you' in the end).
Hey, you're in venice! if you plan a milan trip i'd like to shake your hand!

33 1/3 books

So Nick, I don't expect you to remember me, but I came to watch you and Mai a couple times at the Zach Feuer Gallery.... I have bright pink hair, if that helps. I'm a huge fan of your music, writing, design -- basically I'm enthralled by everything you've done, not to gush, but it's true.

Anyway, that's neither here nor there. I work as a publicity assistant for Continuum Publishers, and along with a lot of other books, we publish the 33 1/3 series, are you familiar with them? Here's a description in case you're not:

So listen, I'd like you to write a 33 1/3 book -- are you interested? The series editor, David Barker (a fellow Brit), is currently accepting proposals for what may be the last round of books in the series. If you are interested, please email me {Wendy@continuum-books.com} and I'll fill you in the details.

Do it, Nick! I had a lot of fun writing the one on "Low", which in fact includes a lengthy quote from your livejournal. So in a sense you've already been published in the series!
