In Japan, today is setsubun (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2285.html), rather optimistically (and according to the lunar calendar) the last day of winter. You throw beans at someone wearing a devil mask, and shout 'Out with evil, in with luck!' Here's a photo of some devil mask and bean sets being sold at a local supermarket:

Oh, Nick--you old flaneur!

Nothing better than a nocturnal midwinter's walk.

*siGh* I need a vacation. Normally I'm witty, but my urge to get the hell out of town causes me to look at pictures of places I've never been and think stupid things like "Ahhh... sparkly!"

Ahhh... sparkly.

I don't know if you intended that to be funny, but it was.

I just got Otto last night at Amoeba(they didn't have it last week), and am listening to grump radio on my way to work. Too bad I couldn't just scan the cd into my ipod on the way. The sticker on my version was dayglo by the way, most definately. Will you be back in San Francisco anytime soon? I have a friend that just bought a nice theater space downtown, perhaps you could play there instead of Bottom of the Hill, do some sort of installation as well? cheers-David

And here I was thinking he was feeling the chill of ice on his face, and watching the hours go by.
