I’m reading the essay and the comments as Japanese. It’s so articulate yet something different like P.K.Dick’s novel.... Lacan said something like Japanese doesn't need psychoanalysis. We don’t have unconscious! Everything represents on our surface. We are postmodern! To postmodern analyze of Japanese culture is like psychoanalyzing psychoanalysis. Actually some japanese art critic mentioned we have to psychoanalyze psychoanalysis to understand our psyche (yeah somebody should psychoanalyze Zizek. I want to read that.) I think my point is analyzing Japanese culture tends to end up in tautological even through the meta-point of view (postmodern?) but this is not only apply to Japanese culture. There is similarity between Japanese and British culture. Like English garden or Sir John Soane, there is some kinda postmodern nature in Brits culture. I mean we are museum of the other, and we use different program to organize ‘em. I’m far and far away from the threads, i have to Finnish my rambling. Anywho, have great time in Hokkaido, the place is like mini-US or Australia or something, the place is japan yet so colonial in good and bad way. Open space of new frontier... of its beneath, there is sad sad colonial history of indigenous people, “Ainu.” They are treated just like Native American in US. Sorry I think I cached post 04-election syndrome. BTW sorry for my English.
