Web 2.0? Job 2.0!

Web 2.0? It's more like Job 2.0 sometimes. Have you updated your Flickr page? Put a witty new status update on Facebook? Have you responded to the 29 invites awaiting your attention there? They come from real people, you know! And hey, your editor wants to connect with you via Linkedin! Then there's the blog... Are there enough hours in the day?

Well, there might be if I just give you a Flickr slideshow today of some (only half so far) of my Japan trip photos (annotations on the Flickr page), accompanied by a rough scratch mp3 of some of the sounds I encountered on my travels (including Oorutaichi and Doddodo concerts)!

Japanscratch (7.5MB stereo mp3 file, 23 mins 41 secs)

Play them together!

That japanscratch is the best thing I've heard in ages. Ages. It is just so good. Exactly what I want from a piece of music nowadays. It's like something from the future I dialed in on the worldband when I was a kid. There should be a term for this type of mix... not ambient...maybe "slideshow"... no, too specific... maybe "overheard." Yes, Overheard music. I want tape after tape of Overheard music playing in a continual loop on my boombox, along with projected video like the signs and posters of Ozu I linked last week. All the melodrama and shitty acting edited out of films and just scenes of signage, migrant workers, empty stages, costumes on hangers, ill-fitting tuxedos and tables and chairs.

So overheard music and underseen films... this is what I want my altermodern to consist of.

I've really been enjoying listening to Japanscratch. I hope posting Overhead music becomes a trend. I may try it myself. Could you an idea of what all we're hearing in that mp3?

Speaking of, are you retiring your Flickr account too? You have some nice photos there.
