I didn't refuse to produce their album, I just worked the idea of it into a grand narrative in which it became another episode of me "missing the boat", after failing to produce bands like Pulp, The Divine Comedy and Belle and Sebastian. It was really just an angle to pin a Click Opera entry (http://imomus.livejournal.com/350070.html) on.
A few months after a teacup-storm in which the music media parlayed that into "Momus tells Vampire Weekend to bugger off!", Ezra and I had a nice Indian meal together (http://imomus.livejournal.com/458889.html) in New York. He told me the forthcoming album's title, asked what associations it triggered in me (Iran, The Clash, trolling, and the Hegelian dialectic), and we chatted about music, Japan, Apartamento magazine, and what it feels like to suddenly get rich (answer: nice).
I don't think I could produce music for anyone these days, my ears get hot around loud music and I feel a bit dizzy and nauseous after a while. Producing tends to be listening to the same track over and over, very loud.
