New York in May: skyscraping, vertiginous, Momuthonic!

New York is a gorgeous skyscraping janglerush, and I'm back, staying this time on the 30th floor of a building on the Upper East Side. Throughout May I have a ton of stuff going on in the city and vicinity. It starts with a two week art performance in Chelsea, continues with four "Momuthon" concerts -- three-hour long live surveys of my entire music career -- and ends with an evening of readings from my two forthcoming books (The Book of Scotlands and The Book of Jokes) in the company of Lord Whimsy and Rusty Santos. The details are under the skyscrapers (and yes, it is all a bit vertigo-inducing).

I don't disagree that Whimsy and I are net narcissists -- though we prefer Thomas de Zengotita's term "self-mediators". But for the record I've never touched my Wikipedia page, because that's a slippery slope to control freak hell. For about six months my Wiki said I'd dabbled in transgender surgery (Microworlds put that in as a joke) and I just left it there. Wikipedia is meant to be a self-correcting system, and it did self-correct. Eventually.

you're staying in the same building that my parent's live in. i'd actually love to read your take on skyscraper living there, the social interactions in the elevators in that building, etc. also, check out the bike room if haven't already.

ask for the key at the front desk. go through the door in the back (south side) of the hall of elevators, then take an immediate right through the second door and there are two rooms full of bikes.

of course, i've got my own in there but you might be able to fill up the tires on an old one and go for a lap around the park.
