Kyoto skies

Eating a "white meal" of different textures and flavours of tofu in Kyoto with Midori Hirano, Ellie [livejournal.com profile] joopy, Japanese electronica artist Baiyon and his girlfriend (who were kind enough to put me up, arigato!), Hypo and his girlfriend -- on holiday, essentially, but DJing tonight in Tokyo at Highti. Oh, and his new album of inedits et raretees, Deluxe Edition, begins with an otherwise-unreleased Momus a cappella song called "Mount Fuji Fruit Collective". (This "lost operetta" was inspired by the murals inside the tower on top of Telegraph Hill in San Francisco. A rough version of it, with music, is here.)

Also, as you can see, the sky was lowering and aswirl, with fluorescent perma-flicker lightning.

In Kyoto with Midori Hirano and Sky!

Kyoto seems to be more laid back.
Checked out myspace Hirano tunes.
Very crayola ,polka dot, whimsy...
The sky looks volcanic.
Is there a rainy season?

The rainy season is forecast to begin this weekend, though it's cleared up in Kansai after the humid, sensual storm of last night and this morning.

Midori told me she's working on new material which sounds not unlike my favourite track off o.lamm's "Monolith" album, "Silviphobia". Funny thing is, o.lamm told me the same thing -- that his new stuff sounds like that (atypical) track! So Olivier and Midori might currently be making the same album, completely independently!

Lovely weather. Somehow a warm and cloudy day is better than the hot-like-a-fry-pan days. How old are the buildings in the last photo?

These are machiya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machiya), merchants townhouses. They might be 150 years old, but sometimes they've been rebuilt since.

These are beautiful. I would love to see a high resolution version of #4 (reading the layout as a Western comic strip).

why is momus in only 4 of the 10 photo's? why not all 10?

we have standing momus 2x, sitting momus & squatting momus. we need more photo's of momus! please do put more photo's of your self in your blog, we might forget what you look like otherwise or think your not really in kioto.

please post more, especially more of you squatting and looking at the camera. there have only been 1,243 of such photo's in the past 1 year.

Momus, I feel a small amount of guilt coming up in me for asking the following, but I simply can't resist my desire for

a field recording!

Any chance you'll have the chance to carry around an audio recording device any day in Japan? The less work involved, the better.

And while you're away from Berlin,
in far Japan,
I ordered "Philosophy of Momus"
from far Japan,
which, two days ago, arrived near Berlin.

I'm afraid it wouldn't look as good as you might imagine. My current camera, the Sony Cybershot M1, is pretty rubbish, inadequate in low light. Many of these pictures are fuzzy, shaky.

Why are there basic grammatical errors in only 4 of your sentences? Why not all 7? Why put apostrophes in "photos" each time you use it, but not in "you're"?

I was considering bringing my podcast gadget, but didn't in the end.

My Lumix FX-01, though I love it in other respects, tends to give the same kind of fuzz and artefacts in low light. But I found the solution in the form of Noise Ninja software with which it doesn't take long to clean up the fuzz...

You can download a trial version from http://www.picturecode.com/ and then, erm, a working serial number is easily found with a quick google...

If this is the part of Kyoto I think it is, the first time I ever listened to The Philosophy of Momus, I was in a restaurant on the right-hand side of the photo overlooking that river. It was even on a similarly rainy day.

why are there errors? because English is not my first or even second language. could you write even so bad in German or Japanese? well then I am ahead of you since I have never lived in a country where English was spoken. so whats your excuse?

anyway why not answer the question? is there some photographer who follows you all over to take photo's [oops PHOTOS] of you standing or squatting and looking at them? its really a boring view, it makes you look like the tourist.

Dear Momus,

So I am doing this project for school in Photoshop and I need some "entourage" for a pool space I designed and will be presenting. Unfortunately, it is hard to find high res pictures of people in bathing suits/naked to Photoshop in there (it's going to be printed at a high resolution). Right now all I have is a photo of Morrissey in a suit (he might where a suit to a bathhouse, you never know with him) and some teenage model or something posing, which just isn't working for me at all. Do you have any high resolution, easy-to-photoshop-the-background-out-of photos of yourself in bathing suit/naked? This (http://www.saramaureen.com/spotthemoz.png) is what I have at the moment. I could really use your help, Momus!

Love,
Sara
