Troglodyte Musicien

imomusMy acoustic art piece, Troglodyte Musicien, will feature in tonight's Audible Picture Show event being held at 8pm at Acud, Veteranenstr. 21, Berlin. The idea behind Audible Picture Show is that short pieces of audio art are played, without pictures, in a darkened cinema. My piece is site specific in the sense that it's so embarrassing that a darkened cinema is the only place it's fit to be exhibited. It contains some whispering in French, some birdsong, some frogs, some prepared piano, and some looped sperm (towards the end). As I explained to curator Matt Hulse, 'a blush is as good as a wink in a dark cinema. People will think me shameless, when in fact I am actually very ashamed, but interested in my shame, and particularly in that little glimpse of paradise we get in the midst of the abject. Blame Bataille!'
No doubt this is how I'll excuse myself when I have to make a little speech at the end about the 'work'. The festival is sponsored by the British Council and the British Embassy, so perhaps I can claim some patriotic angle by stressing that embarrassment is the great British subject.
