From time to time I've been asked to co-write songs with people and sing on their records as a guest vocalist. Today I'm offering you a podcast consisting of five collaborations from the past five years or so, tracks I made with Kreidler, Bran Van 3000, Hypo, O.LAMM and The 6ths. It's weird and wonderful to sing on the records of the artists you admire -- the ultimate karaoke session, in a sense. In between the songs, I've told the stories of how these collaborations came about, and what it was like to work with the people involved. The O.LAMM track is an exclusive, the world's first glimpse into his monumentally funky new album Monolith, due this November on Active Suspension. Click the picture to download the podcast.

It seems to have disappeared. On YouTube there's onlyan amateur video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=nmRHb6IctD0) for the Eek A Mouse Shopping track featuring some beach jocks. I'd like see folk like that trying to do my version!

You always seem to loosen up on these collaborations, which i like very much ( you turned me on to Kreidler this way). Keep rapping..maybe Momus needs to do a grime track( pun intended ). Have your heard Lady Sovereign..? http://www.ladysovereign.com

O.LAMM is now officially my favorite person.

I'm sorry.

You're still up there, though!

(What songs are being played during your spoken interludes, btw?)

You have your wounded icon on-screen; hope I didn't upset you with my "loosen up" comment. Perhaps "having fun" would have been more apt choce of words. Incidentally, I really enjoy Click Opera, but don't much time to comment these days..

Momus, you're so conventionally dressed! I was hoping for an apron at least. By the way, I discovered a new use for aprons this year at Burning Man. They can be worn as a cape, to protect delicate shoulders from the sun!

The songs being played in the spoken interludes are some of the other Hypo tracks, like Timecode (http://imomus.com/timecode.mp3), or other Bran Van 3000 tracks (the Eek A Mouse section of "Shopping"), or the end of the O.LAMM piece.

O.LAMM is indeed a fantastic person. His blog (in French) is here (http://goldbugvariations.blogspot.com/).

I think you're the only artist I'd be in danger of making more of a success with my vocal presence... I might spoil you!

Does that mean I can't sample the throat singing sound you make in the beginning of your "no sony for mai" podcast from last year?

You're welcome, but you might get a better sample from a Tuvan (http://khoomei.com/types.htm).

Timecode by itself with your vocals defines a whole new genre of music. Some of the most inspired new music I've heard in the 2000s. You can quote me on that when the historians come back to discover it in 2020. Thank you Hypomus.
