Tomorrow I fly to Venice for a week exploring the narrative qualities of the sounds made by objects at the Teach Me conference. I'll be back in Italy to perform the first-ever Momus concerts in that country (amazing but true) a month later, with shows scheduled in Venice (Risonanze, 4th November, possibly at Teatro Fondamenta Nuove di Venezia) and at Teatro Juvarra in Turin on Tuesday November 8th. More details and confirmations later.

I'm also in the early stages of talking to Rusty Santos (who's worked with Animal Collective, Black Dice and Eye Yamataka and runs UUnited Acoustic Recordings, a record label associated with United Bamboo) about him flying out for a couple of weeks from New York to Berlin in November to work on new Momus material for release in 2006 on the album presently codenamed "The Shepherd". I'll be in New York for a couple of months next year as well, so work on the record can continue then.

Some more stuff I want to note: Peres Projects, one of the most interesting galleries on LA's Chung King Road, opens a Berlin branch this week (a huge warehouse in Kreuzberg) with a show by Terence Koh, also known as Asianpunkboy. His website is worth a look; lots of flash stuff with well-chosen music. Also, I'm indebted to Zach Mercer for telling me about avant-enka singer Mikami Kan. In my mind he's some weird combination of Misora Hibari, Derek Bailey and Leadbelly, but I haven't heard a single peep of his sound yet.

Is there any other city that could suit your Italian debut better than Venice?

...what timing.. I was just sampling your works Momus..I still think I like you as a writter better (not to be insulting)..... its just some of the nature that I like best about you shows up in your writing about things; perhaps the best reason for you to do it I suppose.

*not being savage*
*not being "sharky"*

Francesco, did you get any details about exactly when and where in Venice it is?

Well, I think of it all as writing. Sung writing, blogged writing, the only thing that changes is the medium and its conventions. But those conventions (music's supposed emotionality and irrationality, for instance) bring different "yous" to the fore.

I agree its all writing, but I percieve more available emotion from your unsung words..but its perhaps because its all up to date.. in the here and now.. and the "passion" of now... is probably more "real" in its expression in comparison to recorded "preserved words" as opposed to fresh ones...

once again, just sorting out my perceptions of you, publicly and out loud.. ;)

Yes, I got Blow Up, an impressive feature, it was funny to see that baroque photo from 99, the one with the long black wig!

Can you tell me the date and name of the festival for the Venice show so I can alter my entry? I've just got a new iBook and my data is all disrupted.

Yes the name of the festival is Risonanze, 4th october and the place should be, if confirmed, Teatro Fondamenta Nuove di Venezia (that's where other editions of the same show were held).

eheh Yeah those picture are good indeed even if they are not the ones I chose for the article.

Hi Nick!
I'm Filippo, last year's larvaes provider (this should make *some* sense!).
Wanted to be in Venice to assist the teachme, but unfortunately I'm due to some exams right in the middle of the week, a few hundred km south from there. However, I'm very happy to hear that you're playing next month. I'll meet you then (Torino? Venezia? don't know yet). Have a nice stay in Venice!

Nick, do you have the sleeve notes to your Brel EP online anywhere? I just had a look through the iMomus site and couldn't find it. Also lazily Googled but nothing... I was just comforting a friend in tears and thought of the Brel song...

It's when I hear such words I would like to be somewhere else than in Sweden.... Like in Italy, for example. Hrm....

What will Rusty Santos bring to your recordings then? Limitations or the opposite?

Be glad you know some homeowners

Returning to your topic from yesterday, you should perhaps be a little more charitable towards homeowners for reasons of self-interest if nothing else. If it wasn't for them, who would provide the accommodation for tenants such as yourself? There is, after all, more to owning a home than meets the eye: you have to build the bloody thing for a start. Houses also require regular maintenance otherwise they eventually fall down! As a tenant, one can simply take all that infrastructure for granted.

I don't think I was saying it was a mortal sin to be a home-owner. The message was "I'm proud to be a lodger... but it's becoming increasingly difficult." Then there was stuff about the systematic degradation of private rented accommodation in the UK. And complaints against The Times and its investment advice.
